SCS DTGD challenges - VA Sunshine for Margaret

I hope I am able to complete all forty plus challenges this week but I know I am being optimistic.  The details of each of these challenges is for behind the scenes fan club members so I will not include specifics here.  I did have this embossed leftover on my desk and decided to swipe some Dee Greunig ink (varied shades of pink) in a rainbow effect.  I enhanced with water drops and a few tiny clear gems, then added the Cuttlebug sentiment in dark rose.

SplitCoastStampers Dare to Get Dirty 2016 -Susie Australia

This is one of a series of some 40 challenges at SCS - if you are a member there and belong to the Fan Club (membership fee required) you are eligible to enter - for fun and some great prizes.  This is for the challenge presented by Susie Australia - but, shhhh... the actual theme is only for Fan Club members!   This image is by  A Day for Daisies - I was working on one of the CASE challenges and realized it had ended, but I used the example anyway!

QKR Stampede #202 - Down on the Farm

This is my DT card for the QKR Stampede challenge this week - "Down on the Farm". You may enter as many as 3 cards by 6pm EDT on Thurs., Aug 4.   I saw this Whistling Cow image at the QKR store, and decided it would be great for our granddaughter's birthday.  We have kind of a running joke about the fact she likes cows!  (Maybe it is a rich rancher she would like to find!)  Both the image and sentiment are QKR.    I added some tiny black gems to the sentiment.   I used Washi tape and a piece of  flocked dot DP to continue the black and white theme.  (

Christmas 2016

Addicted to Stamps
I have not yet decided on the image to use for our Christmas cards for this year, but it maybe this great shepherd boy (QKR digis).  I prefer to use mostly the same image, and for me simple is best!  This layout works well, but there will be other sketches out there to use!  I am just not sure DH will go for the non-traditional colors, but I like this striped paper!  The tabs are a glittery gold ribbon, and the star is punched from glitter paper.  I edged the image layers with Memento London Fog ink. The cs is shimmery Champagne from Recollection.

Soar up up and away - and back down again

This is my card for this week's Design Team samples at QKR Stampede.  The theme is Up up and away.  You may enter up to 3 times and you have a chance to win images from the QKR digi store.
As is often the case, I have a story behind this card.  If you have seen previous cards you may recall we have a granddaughter who is beginning her second year at the US Air Force Academy.  She recently completed her requirement to earn her military freefall wings.  Even their first jump is a solo.  So of course the sentiment is not quite accurate - she was certainly not sitting! ( But I could not resist.)    Reading her description - it must be a magical experience.

Feel better, Mary

This is for our friend who just had surgery.  I was uncertain about the pink and kraft combo, but IRL I like it a lot - on the screen the pink is not at all true to life.  (Hint:  tilt the screen so it looks more pink than coral LOL!!!)

Blessings Thank you

I need several thank you cards for members of a church group.  This Cheery Lynn Blessings die cut is great for cards such as this.  The Asterisk are from Cuttlebug dies that were among the first dies I ever purchased.  I used miscellaneous papers and a shiny gem to complete the card.  Inside reads "Thank you for the blessing you are to others."
I think my favorite embellishment is the one I am using, but I am very partial to die cuts and gems! : Creative Knockouts

QKR Design Team #200: Enjoying the Sun

This week the challenge at QKR Stampede is "By the Sea".  You have until 6p.m. Thursday July 21 with up to 3 entries.   This fun bear is called "enjoying the sun", and the sentiment is also a digi from QKR.  He looks about as ambitious as I feel in the sun!  I colored him with Prismas, and he is backed with some DP from my stash.  The small panel shows fish, and the larger panel is a sky/sea piece - I have found it hard to use but it works well here.  I added another bit of DP for the sandy beach, and connected it with a bit of twine.  They don't show much here, but I used bits of the "negative" from a sheet of stickers - colored them and used them to separate the sand, sea, and sky.

Happy 62nd Anniversary

Our friends are celebrating their 62nd anniversary - truly an occasion to commemorate.  Recently Mary Ellen Smith at Dearie Dolls posted an image of this couple - seated at opposite ends of the couch!  I asked if she could get them to pose again, seated closer!  She responded with two additional versions, including this one.  Perfect!  Mary Ellen, you are so great to respond to individual requests.

Floral wish

I have had these Posh stamps for a long time and have rarely used them - wish I had photos of the samples Dee Greunig made when I bought them!  I need to work more with CAS cards.  I colored the stamps with markers and also filled in a bit on the stamped image (Vertical Wish Set).

Patriotic Gertie for granddaughter

Our granddaughter is completing her requisite 5 (parachute) jumps.  She is beginning her second year at the USAF academy. We told her to let us know after she finishes, not before!  She enjoys my cards, and I am sure she will like this.  I have had these papers, brads and buttons for some time.  The red stars are punched, and the blue trellis and sentiment are die cuts (Cuttlebug).  Blue and red Washi tape strips at the top do not show up on the photo.  Patriotic Gertie - ready for an outdoor parade - is part of a freebie set at Imagine That Digi Stamp Store.

DT card for QKR Stampede challenge #199 - transportation

I am not sure how good this transportation might be...!!! I need a card for a brother-in-law who really enjoys long trail rides on his trusty Boots.  Certainly Boots is a bit more sedate than this bronco!  At any rate, check out the  QKR Stampede Blogspot  for this week's challenge - transportation.  You will find quite a variety of ideas from the talented DT members.  You may enter up to 3 times, and could win some of the fun QKR images.  Entries are due by 3 p,m, EDT, Thursday.
I colored the horse and rider with Prismas, and used chalk to lightly distress the edges. I used twine for a lasso, and Washi tape (maybe it is duck tape?) for the strips.  The background is dry embossed.  The sentiment is also from QKR (available as a rubber stamp) .  It is actually a single line that I cut apart to fit the sketch.

QKR Design team #198 - Christmas in July

It is time to  start thinking about Christmas, though it is hard to do when it is 110 every day!  I know, for those of you in the southern hemisphere that is usual for the holidays!  I selected the digital image "shepherd" and Merry Christmas to go with it- from the selection at QKR.  You may submit up to 3 entries by 3 p.m. July 7.
Last week the theme at QKR Stampede was paper piecing, and I decided to go that route again.  I pieced the head piece and also the robe.  In retrospect I wish I had found a better piece of DP for the robe - it needs a bit more color.  (If you have not done paper piecing, my advice to you is to select a fairly light colored DP so it is easy to see the lines to cut.)  I also used favorite style - lots of light colored embossing.  I used a shimmery champagne colored cs (Recollections) for embossing and stamping, as well as for the card base.  I do not yet have a "star" embossing folder, so I substituted the snowflakes.  I used a gold pen to color the rays of one, and topped it with a
punched from gold glitter cs, though it does not really show on the screen.  I also used a bit of cord with a metallic thread for the head dress.
If I decide to mass produce this card for Christmas I may just leave the image uncolored.  My preference is to  use the same image for all of our cards.
