Christmas 2015 #27

This was a very hard sketch for me - perhaps more so because I was using it for a Christmas card, and did not want too busy a look.  The DP is Paper Pizzazz, with a blue that has a purple tinge to it.   I punched the snowflakes, and used a Cheery Lynn branch die for the finishing touch - as well as a few sequins that could be considered antiques!  The stamp is Rubber Stampede.  The Christmas season is a favorite - first of all, Joy in celebrating the birth of Christ; then the Joy in family, decorations, being in touch with old friends through cards - and so much more.  This card is 4.5 x 4.5.  (Sorry for the strange layout - the appearance in "edit" is quite different from the final result.)

Christmas 2015 #27

Stamp - Ann-ticipation; Blessings - computer; DP - Paper Pizazz; brand new white cs; green cs and ribbon.   Christmas is a favorite season - knowing we celebrate the birth of the Christ child - and I certainly like the family gatherings, the lights, food, music - everything!

Special fold

  1. Not sure what this fold is called- the triangular panels open to reveal lovely Edna with her paper pieced dress and shiny teal hand bag!  I am glad to have had a use for this DP - with the border around 12x12 paper it is hard to use on q regular card.     Edna is by Rubbernecker; the swirl die cut by Joanna Sheen; tiny flowers by Cheery Lynn; Birthday sentiment by Sizzix.  This time I did remember to add bits of color before gluing on the paper  piece - I have learned it is hard to color once the added layer is there.

Christmas 2015 #26

First of all - can any one answer this question?  I usually use GP 110 cs (from WalMart) for card bases - I prefer to use the computer to print verses on the inside.  Some one told me that Recollection 110 (Michaels) is better - I got some - but it will not go through the printer.  My question - both say 110, but the Recollections seems twice as thick.  I thought 110 referred to weight and would be the same.  What does 110 really mean?  (I had anticipated the printer problem so am not overly disappointed - will just have to be more creative with those inside verses.)
Now to this card:    DP - Faith collection by the Paper Studio; snowflake folder (CB); stamp by Stampabilities.  It has a date of 2008 - I am sure I have not had it that long, but it has been in my collection for a few years - have not used it much recently.

Christmas 2015 - #25 - glittery

One of the following challenges is for a quick card - I think that is a relative term but this was quick for me!  The bg tree is embossed with a QuickKutz folder, and snowflakes are embossed on the small panel.  Stamp by Ann-ticipation; a bit of blue for pop; snowflake punch.  I used much glitter on the snowflakes, and a bit more here and there (truth be told, on the back of the card as well!!)   I got the stamp at a yard sale, and I see the date on it is 1993 - but I think it is timeless,  As for the glitter - I bought a lot many years ago - think it must have been a lifetime supply!

Birthday wishes

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all.  Once again, we are reminded of all the blessings in our lives.  For some, the past year has been one of abundant blessings, yet I realize that for others the blessings are a little harder to see, and my prayer for you is that you will receive the strength and comfort you need in your lives.  Teri, at Joan's Gardens has expressed this so beautifully - thank you, Teri.
For us, Thanksgiving is often a quiet celebration, as we save our family get togethers for Christmas. We started with a most meaningful service at our church last evening, and will have a traditional dinner later today - we love the leftovers, so choose to do our own rather than eat out!  Eventually, turkey soup is a must...

Christmas 2015 #24

Here is another card with the ornament DP (Paper Studio).  This time I realized I could create an ornament with this Labels 1 die - I dry embossed the green layer, and added a twine tie.  The back panel is embossed with a LifeStyle Crafts folder.  The image is by Unity.

This is a departure from most of the Christmas cards I have made this year - I wanted to do the "ornament" challenge - I hope the paper counts, as I have no ornament stamps or dies! This paper is by Paper Studio.  Also used:  stamp by Rubber Stampede; shiny ribbon; embossing folder by LifeStyle Crafts; Nile green and shimmery champagne cs.

Masculine in fall colors

This is for a retired pastor - the papers in a collection called "Faith", by Paper Studio, were perfect - and used several of the colors inspired by DRS.  The stamp is unlabelled.  I dusted off the Asterisk dies by Cuttlebug - as I recall, one of my first purchases from them.  I tend to forget about this set, but this one works as a bit of trim when flowers do not seem right - as in a masculine card.

I used the card by Monika (below) for inspiration - though with the embossing folder (Quick Cutz) I could not figure out how to space the trees as I wanted.   I used a sentiment by Unity for repetition.  (If you have seen other cards on my blog, you know that I really struggle with CAS cards, and this is certainly no exception!)

Christmas 2015 #21

I thought I had nearly enough cards completed (I only send hand made cards to a few family members) - but we had a bazaar at church on Saturday, and several of the Christmas cards sold!  So I am back at it!  I had been using shimmery cream and green, but there is not much green cs left.  Also, I wanted to use this shimmery silver, and I was not happy with the green and silver - decided I like the dark grey instead - especially with the silhouette.  The red ribbon adds a bit of holiday color.  The sentiment is computer generated, and the image Stampendous.  I added silver half pearls in addition to the ribbon - and some clear glitter to the snowflakes.
Note:  The CRAFT challenge is for a Christmas present  - these are the gifts of the Magi to the best Christmas present of all, the Christ child.

60th Anniversary - diamonds, gold and silver

(Sorry, my computer does not seem to like the silvery cs or the ribbon...it should not look quite so grey and splotchy!)
Diamonds are for the 60th - well, I used some crystal looking gems!  I also wanted to use silver and gold - the cs is shimmery silver, and the ribbon is gold and silver.  The die cut strip is Cuttlebug; the bg is by Darice.  I found this image on line while checking to make sure about the diamonds - decided it was what I wanted for this card.

Inspired background

I attempted a background I saw demonstrated on a video - using pens and a spray bottle.  I am not sure where my sprayer is right now, so I tried an aqua pen - which did not work at all.  As you can see, the result is sharper lines than I anticipated - but I decided to go with what I had.  I used washi tape in similar colors for the strips.  The stamp is Stampabilities, and the embossing is Woven by LifeStyle crafts.  My original inspiration was the silhouette look.

Another humorous card

I have been working on a series of cards requested by a friend.  This is for an anniversary - the verse is inside.  I found the image in my stash of images I have previously colored - I forget the source.  I used washi tape for the bottom strip (actually, that is on the inside of the card) and the narrow strip behind the image.

Paper pieced Agnes

I have had Agnes (Art Impressions) for a long time, and have used it a lot, but it has been totally neglected for a year or two - time to dust her off!  I used some scraps for paper piecing and to make the matching panels.  The flower was also in a neglected jar of miscellaneous floral pieces.  I colored with Prismas and a couple of metallic gel pens.

Dearie Doll Christmas

My Christmas cards  have a spiritual theme, but I could not resist this Dearie Dolls image - so I made a card to send to our granddaughter - you see her included in my photo at the right.  (She is in her first year at the Air Force Academy - she is fortunate to be able to go home from time to time, but she misses her cat!)  This will be unsigned so she can send it to a friend.   I used the Dearie Dolls image (thank you for sharing your talent, Mary Ellen).  Where are you in CO?  The image is new, but the DP has been in my stash for a long time - have no idea of the origin!

Black and white sympathy

What did I do before embossing folders?  I used 3 here - With Sympathy - Darice; one by LifeStyle that reminds me of mountains; CB Victoria.  To add the bow - I cut tiny notches in the edge of the image.  I have been wanting to use this new image (part of a prize - thank you!) by Our Daily Bread (Mountain range).  I did not think I could make it work with the sketch, but thanks to lovely inspiration cards, especially one by Chris Olson, I realized I could turn the sketch.  Still had to adjust it a bit...
When I selected this stamp, I had  not thought of using it for a sympathy card.  What do you think?

I keep thinking it is time to get more serious about Christmas cards - but I think I am not too far behind.  Both of these stamps were yard sale finds - the sentiment says Ann-ticipation and the pine sprigs are Hero Arts.  I  used a bit of a large Nellie Snellen folder for the lamp, and the bg is Cuttlebug Snowflakes.

My inbox is filling up with Black Friday previews, a sure sign that Thanksgiving is approaching - I prefer to concentrate on gratitude for the blessings that fill our lives
.I used a part of the Sizzix embossing folder, and highlighted with chalk.  The papers from from a DCWV stack - the larger panel includes leaves.  The tab is a bit of Washi tape.

We have been gone for a month - on a wonderful Mediterranean and TransAtlantic cruise - will try to post a few photos later.  Now I am ready to get back to crafting - and getting a few more Christmas cards made.  Supplies:  Unity stamps, snowflake punch and embossing folder; favorite green and white cs combo; Michael's ribbon; glitter (mostly on embossed snowflakes).
