Christmas 2015 #16

Time to get more serious about Christmas cards!  I like to use the same general format - this year, cream and hunter green, with lots of dry embossing for most of them.  So if you see what looks like a repeat, that is why!  They are usually different layouts, however.  Sentiment by Unity; tree embossing by LifeStyle.

Little squares

Outside the box again...  Hooray!  I actually used up a few of my scraps - I did not make anything new for these squares.  I am not so good at being a perfectionist, so I distressed the edges - that look is a bit more forgiving if the edges do not line up just right.  I highlighted the birthday with a bit of glue and powdered chalk.  The Blessings is a favorite (so versatile) from Cheery Lynn.  The embossed pieces are from a number of folders.

Party time!

CAS is always more of a challenge for me than other styles - it is hard to leave all that white space!  I hope this works - the Unity sketch used Christmas ornaments - I have none, but thought this Unity Itty Bitty party set would work.  I colored with chalk pencils and a couple of metallic markers, and added glitter tothe hat, balloon and sentiment.  (I tore the sentiment layer to fit the Labels die.

View through the gate

I took way too long trying some new things and working out the details of this card.  Am I the only one that does this?
Technique - lots of sponging (doesn't show up very well on edges).  Behind the gate - I sponged several different colors on shimmery cs, then stamped over this.
Stamp - Inkadinkado; gate - Marianne die; flowers - Cuttlebug (part of a border die); leaves - Sizzix; Cuttlebug birthday folder, bit of lacy fiber; shiny gems for flower centers; metallic cs for gate.

Image and Sentiment- Sing to the Lord by ODB; chalk pencils; misc. DP from my stash; shimmery champagne cs; shiny gems; Spellbinders circle dies.  The strips at the bottom are kind of a glittery embroidered felt - several similar pieces were included in a bag of ribbons from a yard sale.  I am never sure how to use these strips!

Fall Pumpkins

This sketch gave me an idea for using this embossing Folder by Sizzix.  It is about 4x6, so too large for the A2 cards I normally make.  I embossed on Kraft cs, then cut the main panel.  This left a piece on each end - not quite right for the corners that peak out.  I just cut some triangles, making sure that each had a bit of the embossed part that would show - a bit of fence or part of the tree.  It is a technique I will use again - though I need to make sure the triangles lineup a bit better!  Added: Cheery Lynn dragonflies, black gems, bits of gold lace.

The kitty in the Window

This week the TeaPotters are card shower is going the the cousin of a member who is facing the removal of a kidney - as well as other health issues.  She is definitely in need of cheer.  Since she likes cats, I used this image from A Day for Daisies, and cut it out - so it appears she is looking in the window - or is she inside looking out?  I added some cord for the curtains.  The window die is Cheery Lynn - I did not include the shutters that are part of the die . For the music theme - do you recall "How much is that doggie in the window?"  That song popped in my head when I thought of this card - substitute kitty, of course.

My first inclination is to use this window for an outdoor scene, but it does appear that we are on the outside looking in, judging by the window frame.  So that is what I did here - and we have a glimpse of on of the mature AI guys relaxing in his robe and slippers.  I colored with Prismas.  The embossing is a Sizzix brick folder; the window

Oh, deer

I was inspired especially by some of the examples for this week's challenge at the House that Stamps Built, and wanted to see what I could do.  Well, ladies, your positions are not at all in jeopardy as your examples are so much better than any I would do - although I think that IRL this is much more shimmery than on the screen.  Feel free to add any suggestions for improvement.
Method:  aqua pen with several colors of  Twinkling H2O, on shimmery champagne cs (Recollections).  I used masking for the moon and to stamp the deer (mixed results there.)  The deer is an old stamp from Embossing Arts, and I have always felt it is a bit out of proportion - minimized that by making it blend into the bg!)  The bird is a Cheery Lynn die, and the chip board from my collection.  By the way, it is not my intention to slight the design team members of other challenges - you all do a fabulous job, and inspire me a lot!   Thanks one and all.

Monochromatic again

Not long ago I bought a couple of these interchangeable folders from the Create and Craft tv show.  They are by Tattered Lace, and I will probably use them a lot.  I used teal chalk to sponge the embossing.  Now I would like to find a way to layer the sentiment.  This can be embossed without inserting the sentiment - I could emboss it separately and create a mat for it.  I will be experimenting.  I used Recollection shimmery champagne cs - one of my favorites for dry embossing.

Hi to Leah

We have a granddaughter who is spending this semester at school in New Orleans.  She is taking several culinary courses.  As I was browsing through some blogs earlier today I saw a digi of a pastry chef - but by now I totally lost track of where I saw it.  (Anyone know what I am talking about?)  A search resulted in a site called Broken Box, where I found this cutie - Baker Toodle (http://www.brokenboxstock.com/).  It is pre-colored - I changed the hair color, and added a few shiny touches, as well as her name.  My handwriting is terrible but I managed 4 letters!

Die cut thanks

Some of my favorite techniques - 1) adhere Washi tape to plain cs.    2) I do not use this often - but for contrast and added texture - double cutting the die cut words - in this case, teal on cream.
In retrospect I wish I had sponged the edge of the Labels piece - I did not use a mat because the next size is just too large.   (That makes a wish list - that the labels did not have such a great difference in size.)

Birthday, not Christmas

I did not intend for this to look so much like Christmas.  I had hoped I would have some cs that is less red - a deep pink, coral or salmon - none to be found - so I used this for the inspiration challenge.  And you need green leaves with flowers, right?  I used gel pens, Twinkling H2O and Brilliance ink to color the image.

New stamp for me

My neighbor had a yard sale this morning - she had a box of rubber stamps for sale and of course I could not r4sist - although I did exercise a great deal of restraint!  This Stampington stamp will be great for my granddaughter as well as others.  I colored with Twinkling H2O's, supplemented with a couple of gel pens.  Scraps used:  DP; a piece of doily; cs for the Cheery Lynn butterfly.  I am not sure what the piece is that I layered behind the butterfly.  It is self-adhesive and great for a bit of texture.  I added some glitter to highlight the sentiment.

Folded corner

This is a lovely image (freebie - thank you) from All Dressed up.  I am afraid I just did not do it justice as far as coloring is concerned - there is such pretty detail - just too much for these aging eyes.I did use gel pens and a couple of chalk pencils.  The sentiment is from a $ bin, and the double sided DP from my stash.  (For once I get to use double sided DP in the manner in which it was intended!

Harry again

It is handy to print more than one copy of digis at a time - since I am mailing the previous card right away, I thought I would use this image (Pink Gem) one more time.  The bg dp is from an animal print collection - this section is just not animal related!  The buttons made a good scan impossible - sorry.

Harry is a bit blue

This will go to a recipient of the SplitCoastStampers TeaPot party this week - a member's co-worker is facing serious health issues and is in need of cheer.  She likes dogs, to this Pink Gem cutie should bring a smile - and I picked up a sheet of jokes while waiting at the doctor's office - I will add some of them to the inside.  If you are interested, any one is welcome to the TeaPot party - there is a weekly recipient - sending cards is optional but always a good thing to do!
The panels are from a KanBan kit; the dark grey textured layer is the cover of an annual report sent to DH; the mat behind Harry is textured handmade paper from Costco; I used a double strip of Washi tape for the horizontal panel.

Wings in black and white

The Happy Birthday embossing is easier to see IRL. I tried a favorite technique with Washi tape - I adhere it to a strip of cs, usually white, then use my cutter to create a strip of whatever width I would like - for this, I cut it in half.  Then I have another strip to use later.  Most of you probably figured this out long ago, but it may be new to someone.  I also tried something kind of new to me - a sort of non-fussy cut image  I just roughly cut around the Unity bird image.  Since it is layered on top of the Memory Box lavalier circle, the somewhat uneven white border is not noticeable.  The charm is one of many that was on a super cheap bracelet - maybe from a $ bin at Michaels??   The black strip is a narrow ribbon.

Apples always remind me of fall - when we lived in Omaha there were so many apples available in September and October!  This got darker than I had anticipated - trying to use the apples as a guide for the colors.  I used red, dark brown and dark gold from the color challenge; sentiment from ODB; red rain drops from the Freedom set available at Classy cards; and a bit of ribbon from my stash.  The DVine Swirl embossed piece (Cuttlebug) is sponged for added depth; some edges are distressed.

A few of you may have noticed I changed my profile.  Since we have sold our motorhome, and are no longer RVing, the photo taken in the RV no longer seemed appropriate.  We still enjoyed the rv lifestyle, but have reached the point in our age where getting ready for our trips was becoming too much of a hassle.  Time to move on to the next stage in our lives!  Labor Day week end, 2015, we joined our daughter and son-in-law at Parents Week End at the Air Force Academy.  We enjoyed a glimpse at the life of our granddaughter, who has had a great couple of months.  Can you tell - we are so proud of all of our grandkids.

Get well, Dale

A friend is experiencing an irregular heartbeat - doctors are not finding good results from meds.  They are RVing friends and he was DH's good fishing buddy (our boat is sold so sadly, those days are over).  These matching scrapbook papers (no company label on pack) are just right - the digi from Dearie Dolls is pre colored and sometimes I cannot find a good match.  I used Spellbinders dies for the ovals.  The look is completed with twine and some shiny gems - think the bronze color is masculine enough.

Another for Anthony

This is to send to Anthony, a 14 year old who is suffering from a rare heart condition, and is very concerned about the prognosis.  The TeaPotters at SplitCoastStampers are sending cards to cheer him.  I find cards for teens and young men very difficult, unless I know specifically some of their interests.  The suggested theme was "be connected" - eg by train - well, I could not find a train but I thought this Monster Truck would work.  I used some shiny gel pens and chalk pencils to color the digi image by Anonymous stamps.  I used an embossing folder by LifeStyle Crafts to give the illusion of tracks - the red layer is also embossed.

September floral

I am still trying to catch up on challenges as well as replenishing my stash.  This card will go out soon - my sister's September birthday is in another week.  This is a bit of nostalgia for me - my father (who passed away over 40 years ago) always gave bronze colored flowers to my mother - her birthday was actually in October.  I used copper Twinkling H2O ink - what a lovely shimmer.  The Kraft bg is embossed with Lifestyle Crafts "Vine".  The Blessings is my Cheery Lynn, and I used a button and ribbon from my stash.

Wings again

In retrospect, I should have made the diagonal strip smaller - I feel it overwhelms the rest of the card.  Comments, please.  DP by DCWV (Heirloom stack); TLC digi (with a bird and butterflies); HB folder by Embossalicious; button, black ribbon.

Another plaid

I discovered I have almost no plaid in my huge collection, but I did find a piece that will work!
This image from a Day for Daisies is colored in chalk pencil and watercolor pencils.  I added a few Cheery Lynn flower die cuts - they must have fallen from her hands!

Quick child's card

A couple of years ago I received a huge box of goodies - including a pack of bright colored papers, stickers, die cuts, etc.  I seldom use them - but since it is my nature to find a use for everything - I thought I could create a celebration card for a child.  The red layer includes the embossed word "celebrate" The sentiment is from Unity.  .The fun look is completed with red tear drops from Classy Cards.
