Snow Couple ~ QKR DT ~ Challenge #224

The QKR Stampede challenge for this week is to feature snow or snowmen.  You may enter up to 3 times by 3 PM EST on Thursday, Jan. 5.  If you are a winner, you will win some cute digis from the QKR Stampede shop.  This week I chose to use this adorable digi couple and the accompanying sentiment.  There are two anniversaries in our family this week, and this theme seemed appropriate.  In fact, the card is already in the mail!  I used Prismas for coloring.  The card is completed with the snowflake embossing folder (Cuttlebug) (on the top half of card only), some Washi tape, and a punched snowflake with glitter.

Santa - QKR DT card ~ Challenge #223

MERRY/CHRISTMAS!
This is of course the last QKR challenge before Christmas, and the theme is Santa.  If you visit the QKR blog you will see many cute images and inspiration for this week's theme.  Come join us, through Dec. 30, with your Santa card!  You may win some images of your choice.  The Old Time Santa image is colored with prismas.  I used a snowflake embossing folder, gold ribbon and gold star stickers.  The sentiment is from my computer.  I die cut it with a Nestabilities label die.  (Using the next larger die for a mat made the piece too big, so I cut a red piece the same size as the white and off set it for a bit of contrast.)

This will go to a pre-schooler from our church.  I make very few cards for little kids, so it is a bit of a challenge for me!   This is a Hero Arts image I have had for a long time.  The sentiment is computer generated.  Branches are a Cheery Lynn die cut, and the red.white strip is washi tape.

For a prayer Partner

Friends at church often ask me to make personalized cards for their pre-school prayer partners.  I am glad to do this, but for this round I am having to use some short cuts!  This is a pre-colored digi from Dearie Dolls.  I used the computer for the sentiments.

QKR DT card - Challenge #221 ~ Christmas - non-traditional colors

This candle image by QKR Stampede works well for non traditional colors - the colors I selected remind me of the glow of candle light.  We invite you to enter the challenge at QKR Stampede this week, using non-traditional colors for your Christmas card.  Check out what my fellow design team members have created to get some great ideas!  You may enter up to 3 times by 6 p.m. EST Friday Dec. 16 - and you have a chance to win digis from QKR Stampede!
Image and sentiment - QKR; DP - Faith, by Paper Studio; Spellbinder oval dies; scrap of metallic gold paper, gold ribbon, piece of a gold floral stem. The image is colored with Prisma pencils, and I shaded both the image and sentiment with gold chalk.  White enamel accents add dimension for the candle drips.

Cuttlebug Mania
Image - QKR; branch dies - Cheery Lynn; Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder, Spellbinder Labels Four die; blue, white cs; glitter; punched star.  I colored by "pulling" ink (printer ink) with an aqua pen - the last one I did looked a bit blue, not sure why this has more of a beige look.  I expected grey! Salted background Christmas tag - QKR Stampede challenge #220

This week the challenge at QKR Stampede is to create a tag for Christmas.  Since we are now Arizonans, I thought a Christmas cactus would be appropriate.  You may enter your Christmas tags (up to 3) by Thursday, Dec. 8, 6 p.m. EDT.
In order to showcase the Christmas cactus I used the salted background   You might find the tutorial here.  Briefly:  spritz glossy cardstock with water; add reinker as desired (I used an aqua brush); sprinkle with salt.  When dry, brush off the excess salt. The remaining salt adds texture.  I am hoping my colors remind you of the desert sand and sky.   I used a stencil for the stars, and glittery pens to add color.  The edging is done with stickles.  The shape is a Nestabilities die cut.

White on white sympathy

Once again, I am in need of a sympathy card, and I have none in my stash.  We heard at church this morning that the son of friends had passed away - as of now, I do not know the circumstances.
Sorry, the white on white does not show very well but I like it IRL for sympathy cards.
I tried a different way to use the Spellbinder Majestic Element circle dies - used them to emboss only, with a plain circle die for the base.  I have had a hard time figuring out how to use these dies, but I like this result.  I used a small die to create a "branch" for the eagle (Our Daily Bread stamp).  The sympathy embossing folder is by Darice.
Edited- I forgot to mention that I fussy cut the eagle- had to do a bit of reconstruction after I accidentally declawed him!

QKR Stampede DT card for challenge #219 - Angels

This angel is fairly non-traditional for Christmas, but I felt the stars gave her a holiday feel.  You are invited to join us at the weekly QKR Stampede challenge.  This week has a timely theme - angels. Check out examples by my fellow Design Team members here.  You may enter up to 3 times before 6 p.m. EST on Thursday, and you will have a chance to win cute images!
This image is called Praying Angel, but I opted to place a small heart in her hands.  She is colored with Prisma crayons.  The sentiment is also from QKR Stampede.  I used pieces from a large gift bag (lots of gold paper for $1 at Dollar Tree!) for mats.  I fussy cut her feet so I could use a smaller die.  The dark red dp has some music and lyrics.  The starry strip is sticker paper layered on white cs, and I added a gold ribbon.

HB, Spence

Seems like in our family birthdays come in groups!  This is for our grandson - just did one for his wife and another for his sister!  The images in my digi file are labelled StampArt but at the moment I cannot locate a web site.  The HB is from a stamp I have had forever!  BG has a couple of fishing DP scraps as well as a scrap of dark brown cs., and I used some mesh from a roll.  I hope you can see the gold strips in the mesh.   It is so difficult to work with but as long as I am satisfied with a sort of uneven look it is fine!

The image and sentiment are both from my stash and are items I neglected to label.  I colored with Prismas
Embossing - Cuttlebug - Swiss dots; Leaves - Sizzix.  Butterfly punches, ribbon, rhinestones. (Try as I might, I cannot get the rhinestones to show on the screen.  I used them on each of the butterflies.  They are pale pink and very shiny.

Splatters or sprays - QKR Stampede DT for challenge #216

The challenge at QKR Stampede this week is to use splatters or sprays.  I saw this truck and it made me think of splashing (?) through the mud!  I spattered water mixed with reinker, using my aqua brush.  Both the truck and sentiment are QKR digis.   If you enter the challenge a maximum of 3 times you will have a chance to win some of these cuties - even more if you use a QKR image.  The deadline is always 6pm eastern time on Thursday. I had a bit of this Paper Pizzazz dp to use and selected colors from the paper.  I used my distressed stripes embossing folder (Cuttlebug) for the bg - it kind of reminds me of tracks.  The oval dies are Spellbinders, and I added some acrylic dots.

Gatefold Anniversary (Joyce)

A friend who often asks me to make cards wants an anniversary card for her niece and hubby.  I used items from a Kanban kit - I really like the gold, cream, dark brown and black designs,  I thought a gatefold card would use several of the items.  The kit is large enough to make dozens of cards. I used the computer to create tags with the names"35", as well as the inside verse. I hope you can see the border for the pretty shape, as well as the panels framing the inside of the card.

SCS Falliday Fest - Kelli Jo's snowman

I am quite sure this is the last card I need to do all 30 cards in the SplitcoastStampers Falliday Fest.  Our challenge is to build our own snowman.  This is way out of the box for me!  I used the snowflake embossing folder.  To follow the sketch, I added some curling ribbon - maybe you can imagine icicles or melting snow!  I used circle dies to cut the snowman and his hat.  Gems, washi tape, and an orange carrot nose complete the look.

SCS Falliday Fest - trying Bokeh

This challenge, part of the 2 week long Falliday Fest at SplitCoastStampers, is to use the Bokeh technique - with a twist.  The twist is to use the white highlights only outside the chosen shape.  I colored the entire piece with watered down blue reinker.  I then masked stars, sponging white ink around them for a shimmery light effect.  This photo looks like I could have been a bit heavier with the white, but IRL I like the look.  The image is QKR stampede, and the sentiment is 7Gypsies.

I used the colors for a dark red apple, and browns with white to represent the colors of an apple crisp.  This is a card I made for our pastor for Pastor Appreciation month - barely made it this month!!!  The DP comes from the Faith stack by Paper Studio; verse by Word Art Wednesday, and the BLessings die by Cheery Lynn.  I have 2 additional cards for our other church staff.

salted watercolor

Reinkers, salt, water and glossy cardstock create  interesting patterns.  Find a tutorial here:  Salted Background  .I used blue ink to look like the night sky.
Image - Recollection; sentiment - QKR Stampede; distressed stripes embossing folder on white cs.

SCS Falliday Fest - Felted paper

All of the challenges are posted for the special Falliday Fest at SplitCoastStampers, and I am in catch up mode - we have until Oct. 31 to complete our projects.  This one is to create felted paper, using a paper napkin.  Briefly, you use one layer of a napkin.  Make a sandwich - napkin, plastic wrap, cardstock.  Use newsprint top and bottom for padding.  (I used regular newspaper with copy paper next to the napkin.)  Iron at the hot setting - no steam - until the napkin and plastic wrap are fused to the cs.  I used this napkin to have another card to send to Bright-Star Center- for kids who are grieving for parents who have been killed.
Supplies:    napkin, sequins, Recollections dp; button EF..

SCS FF16 Peanut Brittle

I still have quite a few of the SplitCoastStamper Falliday Fest challenges to complete - not sure if I will make all of them but there is another week to  catch up!  This is StampMomma's challenge to be inspired by our favorite Christmas hard candy.  Several years ago my hubby started to make microwave peanut brittle and that has been a favorite tradition ever since.  I used the Swiss Dots EF to represent the nutty bumps, and of course the bg color for the golden brown peanut brittle.  Image and sentiment are both QKR Stampede digis.

SCS Falliday Fest - metal

This Falliday Fest challenge at Splitcoaststampers requires a traditional Hispanic folk art metallic piece such as a heart.  I used a die to cut the heart from the foil lid of an International Coffee can (Hazelnut for me!).  I am also making this card to send to one of the charitable destinations - birthday cards for hospice patients.  I wass not comfortable saying Happy Birthday, so I combined die cuts from a couple of dies.  The bg is eggplant, embossed with more hearts (Darice).
