Sept. 30 QKR Challenge #211 - Cut It Up

This week's challenge at  QKR Stampede is "Cut it up".  I did some different cuts - the die cuts for the main image, and scissor cuts for the paper pieced apron and the edging scissor cut for the tag. If you join in the challenge you can use one or more of these options - or you might choose to cut with a punch.  This is a lovely nostalgic image called Girl with a Basket.  I used papers from a DCWV stack called Heirloom.  The apron is paper pieced, and I used Prismas to color the rest.  The strip is Washi tape mounted on dark brown, and enhanced with gold and metallic cord.  I added shiny brown gems on the 3 corners.

Sister - in - law birthday

My sister-in-law is a quilter, so this quilted heart from QKR Stampede is great for her birthday, and could be a county fair entry!..  I colored with metallic markers.  I chose papers that remind me of a vintage look.  I added some shading and distressed edges.  The Blessings die is by Cheery Lynn.

Sept. 23 QKR Stampede challenge - embossing with glitter and sparkle

When I saw the theme for this week's challenge (embossing) at QKR Stampede, I thought about this snowflake folder for a wintry card.  QKR has this great digital image, "Snowy Cabin",  as well as the let it snow sentiment.  Since we are in AZ, I could use it to rub it in to some one in snow country.
I did not color the image, but used a lot of glitter on the trees and the snow - on the image and on the embossed snowflakes.
Cuttlebug Snowflake embossing folder;  glitter, metallic silver strip, Floral Garden Diamond ribbon wrap; glittery snowflake button..  The mats look black here but IRL they are dark blue.  I especially like the crisp look of the white and blue.

In memory of Flo

A friend passed away unexpectedly on Saturday.  She has been so active at church - she will be missed by many.  I used the Cuttlebug Swiss dots folder and Darice butterflies.  The Bible image is by Sweet n Sassy; the sentiment is Rubber Stampede.  I added a bit of lace.  In my haste to get this in the mail earlier today I forgot to add the gems to complete the sketch!

Confirmation #3

This is the final card I made to send to members of our recent confirmation class.  I used similar but not identical materials and designs, but I used the same image cut from the front of the church bulletin.  I feel it is important to recognize our young members for this milestone.  The papers are from a pad by Paper Studio.  I have used these papers a lot, and have lots of scraps.  I used two different pieces with the cross, and a tiny strip for the band.  I also used a piece of the green DP to mat the card, and a smaller scrap for the scalloped oval.  I am getting a lot of mileage from this pad!  I tried to make this more masculine for the only boy in the group.

Confirmation #2

This is the second card I made to send to confirmands at our church.  I used the image and date from the church bulletin cover, and included a meaningful verse inside.  I used my Nesties to cut the circles and added a couple of gems.  The DP is from a pack called Faith by The Paper Studio

I am attempting to start a card ministry at our church.  I have been sending cards from time to time but would like to have a more formal arrangement.  Does any one have a suggestion for a name other than "card ministry"?  For this card to honor a confirmand I used the design from the front of the church bulletin, and added the date from there as well.  The papers are from a DCWV stack called "Faith".

Recycled Christmas card

Today we want to remember all the victims of 9-ll and pray for all of the families affected by acts of terror that have happened throughout the world.

Over the years I have saved many Christmas cards with plans to recycle them - thanks for the challenge to encourage me to do at least one!  The blue DP is Paper Pizazz, and the yellow is Paper Studio.  The edges are distressed.  Star brads complete the layout.

Smiling, sunny flowers for QKR DT - challenge #208

We are in Arizona, and with daily highs hovering around 100, it is not quite fall!  Nevertheless, it is time to think about fall, and the challenge this week at QKR Stampede is to use fall colors. You may enter up to 3 times before 6 p.m.EDT, Thursday, Sept. 15.  You will be entered for the possibility to win some cute QKR images or sentiments.  This fun image, called Smiling Flowers, is a digi by QKR.  I colored with Prismas, and cut with Nestabilities circle dies..  The sentiment is by Eureka - a member of the same family as QKR.  The papers are from a fall stack by DCWV.  I added a sticker strip, twine, and tiny flowers.

Special Christmas 2016 #2

This is to continue my tradition of creating Christmas cards for grandkids that are special in some way - this may be called a double gatefold or maybe a z-fold. .The original piece is 12x5.5; each side is folded, then folded back.  The belly band and image hold it closed.  I will add a name and greeting to the front, and the inside has a pocket.  Another tradition is to give a donation in their honor - organizations like World Vision and Samaritan's Purse offer items such as $50 for school supplies in Africa or $50 for medical supplies in a third world country.  We have the fun of "matching" interests, and providing an object lesson in giving.  We include the donor card in the pocket.
Image - QKR  digital shepherd boy - reminds me of the song "The Shepherd Boy".
Swiss Dot embossing folder - Cuttlebug; shimmery champagne and textured blue cs.

I did not take additional photos of this card, but here is an "open" view of the first z-fold card I posted on Sept. 10:
