Polka dots

This card is for the weekly Teapot Tuesday challenge at Splitcoaststampers.  Each week we have a selected recipient for our cards.  This week they go to a couple who recently lost a 21 year old son in a tragic accident.  He was an organ donor, so the knowledge that in his death he could help others may provide some comfort.  (Recently a policeman in the Phoenix area was gunned down in an ambush.  He, too, was an organ donor, but I was disappointed that this information was not widely reported on the news.)  Find out more about the Teapot challenge here:  Teapot-Tuesdays-mmtpt409
Dies used:  butterfly - CCDesigns; circle - Nestabilities Majestic Elements;  leaves - Sizzix; flowers - Spellbinders Blooms 2; Sentiment - Cuttlebug,  embossing folder - Cuttlebug.
The Majestic Elements and Sizzix Leaf dies are in the "use it or lose it" category.

Eureka Stamps Challenge #192 - April Showers bring May flowers

Tulips are a favorite of mine - such a lovely result of April showers - just not so much here in Arizona.  For this challenge I used the stamp "tulips" and the Blessings sentiment - both available as digis at the Eureka site.  The background is light purple, though on my screen it looks blue!  I added ribbon and some tiny punched butterflies, which I covered in sparkly purple glitter mixed with gold..  Please join us with your floral entries.  You can win 2 digis of your choice - 3 if your entry uses an image from Eureka.

New technique???

This is a terrible image because of the shiny panel,  You will have to trust me!  I am excited about a discovery that some of you have probably done a lot.  For a recycling piece I used the foil lid on a coffee can.  I intended to cut the Cuttlebug Thanks, but since the foil was thinner than cs, it did not cut.  Instead, it sort of embossed - looks a lot like what I call tin art that was popular a few years ago - using a nail to create tiny holes in metal.  I did sponge some black ink but it did not really fill in the word outline as I expected.  I also die cut the stars and the Spellbinder banner (border) from the coffee can foil.  This is another favorite color combo - black and white, this time with silver.  I was recently in a gift shop and saw a large collection of CAS black and white cards.  I wanted to take pictures of all of them!  The embossing is a Darice hearts folder.  I think this would be suitable as a masculine thank you.

HB, Ethan

Alaska Fire Service Hotshots faced an intense fire season in 2015. Some of the best firefighters over the past decade have come from Durango, where people grow up outdoors and are accustomed to rugged country and high elevations.
Inspiration for coloring of this card = photo from the Durango, CO Herald - as seen on Facebook. The photo was taken in Alaska and features several firefighters from Durango.

This needs a bit of explaining.  One of our grandsons has achieved his dream job - a hot shot firefighter.  He is currently stationed near Salt Lake City, but will travel as needed.  I have had this image (from Little Stamps of Heaven) in my digi files for a while.  The embossed bg is by Darice.  I smudged a lot with Memento London Fog and Tim Holtz Distress Tea Dye inks.  The edges are also distressed - I figure these firefighters are usually smudged and distressed!  The images are colored with chalk and chalk pencils - my favorite for a soft and smudgy look!

"9 to 5"

Do you remember the Dolly Parton song /movie "9 to 5"?  I did not see the movie, but  now the song is going through my head...  Not sure this guy is working 9 to 5 LOL!  It is another Dearie Doll image - I am using them a lot as I enjoy the humor and I get a lot of variety!   This goes to an accountant - hence the numbers on the bg.  I added a clip and a bit of burlap.  I confess I have a terrible time thinking of things to use for masculine embellishments - especially when a sketch suggests flowers.

A sad new day

I have been neglecting the SplitCoastStampers Teapot Tuesday challenges recently, but the story last week encouraged me to be involved more regularly. Sue from Kansas recently lost her husband of over 40 years,  They were rvers, and since we were also rvers, I feel a connection, and wanted to send a card to let her know people are thinking of her.  (See the challenge here:  MMTPT390).
New: Sue is beginning a new phase of her life; a new technique - cutting and sponging the flowers in this image from A day for Daisies;  words:  Word Art digis; DP by Theresa Collins;  (faux) stitching - border embossing folders by Cuttlebug; ribbon; dark teal and shimmery silver cs by Recollections; glitter on centers of flowers.

Folded corner

This is a lovely image (freebie - thank you) from All Dressed up.  I am afraid I just did not do it justice as far as coloring is concerned - there is such pretty detail - just too much for these aging eyes.I did use gel pens and a couple of chalk pencils.  The sentiment is from a $ bin, and the double sided DP from my stash.  (For once I get to use double sided DP in the manner in which it was intended!

For Victoria, with an envelope

.
I rarely make square cards because of the extra postage.  However, this will be hand delivered - so bumpy embellishments and square shape will work.  My teen aged granddaughter asked me to make a card for her friend - in pink, with a kitty and glitter.  The image is from http://sliekje.blogspot.com/.  Angelique periodically adds images, mostly cats - all are freebies.  Thank you for your generosity and keep on drawing!  I colored with Prismas and metallic gel pens.  The animal DP is from a pad I found at Big Lots - the checked section is the reverse of the double sided paper.  The polka dots is a sheet I have had for a long time.  No pattern for the envelope - I decided to wing it, but using a pattern would have been easier I am sure.  There is glitter on the flowers and her name - which is easier to see IRL.  There are 3 deep pink rain drops at the top right and narrow gold metallic sticker strips to set off the various papers.

Flowers and doodles

The flowers are cut from a Cuttlebug die which is part of the Olivia alpha set - one of the first Cuttlebug purchases I made years ago!  I used a tiny pop dot to raise the smaller blossom.  The centers are gems by Hampton Art.  The stripes and peachy bg are parts of the same large page of DPn and the critter is one of Cheery Lynn's tiny things with wings.  A note about that...I wanted to make it pop a bit, so I decided to cut a second one with black cs to back up the orange.  Well, all those tiny openings result in separate pieces.  My plan was to tape the black ones on the back of the orange bug.  That was not at all easy to do with such tiny pieces - but I finally made it!  Does any one have a better suggestion?

Blessings - red and white

This is really outside of my usual style - but I really like the result - and SO easy!    I have a fairly large sheet of these red hearts - and a smaller piece of pink. These pieces were included in a huge box of supplies I bought at a store closing a few years ago - the new owner just wanted to get rid of "stuff" - lots of left overs from what must have been an invitation business.  The bottom line is that this red piece is going to last a long time - and this sketch was the perfect spot to use a bit!

A tractor for Lloyd

I have recently neglected the Tuesday Teapot challenges at Splitcoaststampers  - I seem to run out of week before I run out of cards to make!  We are to follow a suggested theme story, then, if we wish, send the card to a recipient - usually one in need of cheer.  Lloyd had been married for 65 years when his wife passed away - he is understandably lonely and could use some cards.  He enjoys tractors and used to have a large garden.  This image was in my WishRAK stash (SplitCoaststampers) so came in handy.  The sentiment is Verve, and other items are from my stash - including a Washi strip along the right edge.

Herb Expressions for a birthday

New:  DP by My Mind's Eye (Adventure 6x6 pad)
Not very old to me:  HerbExpressions (SU)
Stash:  CB birthday folder, sequins, SU Mellow Moss ink
Notes:  I used white ink to swipe directly on the embossed bg for a bit of highlighting.
I have a stash of sequins that were in my late mother's sewing box.  They come in packages of over 500, with a price label of .19!  At the rate I am going the sequins I have will last another 30 years or so!
