Speedy Recovery, Dennis

This is for Dennis, a deacon at our church, who is recovering from surgery.
Image - pre-colored Dearie Doll; misc. DP from my stash, sequins; clip art school bell.
(There is an inside joke for the bell.  My hubby has had very limited mobility for a year and a half due to severe back pain.  He sometimes needs some assistance, and I may have trouble hearing him.  He can use one of my school bells to call me.  Dennis gives us a great deal of grief about this!!!  So we offered to lend one to him.)

DT card for QKR Stampede challenge ~ ATG/option - quilting or stitching

This week the challenge at QKR Stampede is for all you quilters!  You may do quilting or stitching, and of course you always have the possibility of anything goes without the option.  The deadline for up to 3 entries is 6 pm EDT Thursday. You could win2 images like this cute one - 3 images if you use an image from QKR or Eureka.  This digi image is called "friends".  When I was little I always enjoyed going to visit my aunt and uncle - she had a set of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls I could play with.  That was a long time ago, and so I consider this a vintage look!
I hope you can see the embossed stitching (glitter added), and the stitched quilting of the heart.
I am not a quilter so my arrangement of the "squares" will most certainly not meet quilter standards!  The coloring is with Prismas.  The sentiment is from Eureka (sister company of QKR Stampede).
I cut the words apart to put them on the circle die cut.  For more dimension the image and sentiment are mounted on pop dots,  A shiny lavender sheer ribbon bow completes the look.

This is for my brother.  He enjoys golf, but also likes history, so I thought this vintage style image - an oldie from Stampin' Up - would be suitable.

Mia Nicole's baptism

This is to honor baby Nicole who was baptized at our church today.  I have had the Expressed Petals DP for a long time.  The Blessings die is by Cheery Lynn, and the other letters are also die cuts.  I added a bit of ribbon and some gold paper from a gift bag.  I included some gold gems as it seemed to me there was too much white at the top of the main  panel!

HB to my husband

Yesterday I posted the card for hubby's twin brother - now here is hubby's.  He has a lot of back pain, so, as he says, he is getting good at doing nothing, sitting in his chair LOL!.  This AI stamp (one of the first in my collection) works pretty well for him! It is colored with Prismas. and cut with a Spellbinder die.   The DP is stonewashed Denim by Provo Craft.  The numbers are from the Olivia alpha set by Cuttlebug  (double layered with white and blue), and the personalized greeting is computer generated.  I sponged the edges of the white, and distressed some of the other layers.  There is a bit of ribbon added.

Special birthday - QKR Stampede Anything Goes challenge #247 ~ option: for the guys

This is for hubby's twin brother - their birthday is Saturday.  (Yup, that means hubby will be 85 as well- and he is the older of the two.)  My BIL has no special  hobbies, so I thought this digi from QKR Stampede is pretty appropriate.  We hope you will join us for the new challenge this week - Anything Goes, with the option - for the guys.  You may enter up to 3 times by 6 p.m. EDT Thursday.  The winner receives an image from QKR Stampede, and there is a special category if you use a QKR image.
Image and sentiment - QKR stampede; script and birthday folders - Cuttlebug; numbers - Cuttlebug; letters are die cuts but I forget the origin.  The card is about 5x8 - I forgot to measure and it is already in the mail!

Sympathy in floral and white

I saved this freebie from Imagine That DigiStamp, fully intending to make a card or two for my stash.  Well, I made the card, but it will not go to my stash, as we had word that a family member of our sister-in-law has passed away, after a long struggle with several cancers.
I wanted to have another entry for the last of the Mojo challenges.  This image is not the greatest fit, but I hope it is close enough.  The image is pre-colored, but I added a bit more metallic (shiny) green, and some silver highlights (on the flowers) using Martha Stewart Glitter finish.  The Sympathy embossing folder is by Darice, and the floral border is by Cuttlebug.  I added plain purple ribbon and bits of Washi tape.

Special thanks to Julee and Mojo

This is a bittersweet Monday.  Julee Tilman has produced Mojo Monday sketches for nearly 10 years - this is sketch #500!  WOW!  She has decided to end the challenge in order to have more time for her family, including 5 year old twins.  Sad for us,, but great for all of you!  Thanks for all you have given.
Sometimes various elements just seem to come together - certainly makes me feel good when that happens.  I selected the freebie from TLC - I like to have encouraging cards on hand.  Then I found a strip of DP (bottom panel)  that was part of a terrific yard sale bonanza.  Unfortunately. there is only anough left for one more card.  No labels so I have no idea of the origin.  The top panel was in that same purchase.  I added some Washi tape, metallic cord, and a bit of ribbon trim - also a yard sale find.

Double Blessing - QKR Stampede DT card - Challenge #246 - Anything Goes

I was so happy to see this sentiment in the QKR Stampede digi catalog.  Friends from church have waited a long time, and when they learned twins were on the way, she said that they had prayed for a child, and now they are blessed with twins.  I even have a great inside verse stored on my computer!  I hope this is not too much blue - I probably should have used white for the solid color embossed layer.  Oh, well, it is done now!  The DP is some I have had in my stash for a long time.  The zebras are also from QKR Stampede.  I decided to fussy cut them.  The brads were part of a super deal I got at a yard sale.  Please join us for the Anything Goes challenge at QKR Stampede - no extra option this week.  You have until Thursday at 6pm EDT to complete as many as three entries.  Winners receive QKR Stampede images - more if you use one of their images - including Eureka.

Happy 60th Annniversary DH

I did not make anything fancy, but DH really likes this card - celebrating 60 years together, today.  We have been so blessed.  have had more physical challenges the past couple of years but over all we certainly have been most fortunate.    I used the "You" embossing folder - so many of those words fit this wonderful guy.  Have I said how wonderful he is?  The image is a freebie from Dearie Dolls  (pre colored)  -  Thanks, Mary Ellen.  I used Cuttlebug dies for the hearts, and numbers, and Spellbinders for the ovals.  Oh, yes... when I gave him the card, DH  asked if he in turn could give it to me - he has no opportunity to shop!  The ultimate re-gifting!

QKR Stampede Anything Goes Challenge - Option, birthday

I think I have a friend or two I can "honor" with this card!  I struggle to use fairly large images and sentiments on the same card, so I decided to make a tag for the sentiment.  Thus is my design team card for this week's challenge at QKR Stampede.  The challenge is always anything goes.  This week the optional theme is a birthday card.    We would encourage you to enter - you may have as many as 3 entries.  The winner receives a digi from QKR Stampede - more than one if you use one of their images (Eureka images count as well.)  The deadline is 3 pm EDT on Thursday.  Check out the blog for some fun ideas from the rest of the team.
Image and sentiment - QKR stampede ("Old goat" and "No kid"); bg paper is called "Haystack" by Colorbok; button dies with metallic thread ties. The inside verse includes a birthday greeting.

DT card for QKR Stampede challenge #244 - ATG: option- Things with Wings

The challenge this week at QKR Stampede is the usual Anything Goes.  The option this week is "Things with Wings".  You may enter up to 3 times by 6 p.m. Thursday, May 24.  If you are a winner you might be the owner of this snazzy gal, or one of the other great QKR digis.  You may win even more images if you use a QKR stamp.  This image is called "Looking Pretty" - guess that depends on your point of view!  I dressed her up in pink, and used scraps of DP, Spellbinder dies, an embossing folder and gems to complete the look.  The top layer of each flower uses the corresponding DP.  It does not show on the screen, but I used a new-to-me product to enhance the flowers and the lady's feathery parts.  I need to explain... at a yard sale, I purchased a jar of what I thought was silver glitter.  When I opened the jar, it was a silvery paint - rather thin and full of glitter.  It is called Glitter Specialty finish by Martha Living.  I used a fine paint brush to cover the selected parts, and I really like the result IRL.  Bonus - it dries very quickly.   Anyone familiar with this product - do you know how it is meant to be used?

Graduating Bear - QKR Anything Goes Challenge 243 - DT card

This week the Anything Goes challenge at QKR Stampede has the option of Graduation.  Some years I have had quite a few graduation cards to send - not so many this year.  I think there is a relative graduating from the U. of Minn. so I used dark burgundy and gold for that school.  The image is Graduating Bear, from the QKR Stampede digi store - colored with an aqua pen and water color pencils.  I used a piece of DP for the sentiment, and backed those pieces with black cs.  The background DP is from a pad called Heirloom by DCWV.  A touch of black ribbon, gold mesh, and gold gems complete the card. (Tic-tac-toe /diagonal/ ribbon, bling, colored pemcils.)

Leah's Graduation

A few days ago I posted the card I made for our grandson.  His sister also graduates this year - in fact, in a couple of days - so this card is already in the mail.
The folded card is 4.25x6.5.  I added another fold to be able to include more images.
Bottom view:open card - embossed bg, her name and school (logo from the website); panel 2 - she has a job as assistant manager in charge of training on American Cruise line ships - she will be doing a lot of traveling!  Main panel - Dearie Doll graduate, and a special verse;  right panel - embossed bg with a strip from DP (believe in your Dreams) and a key sticker.
Folds:  I started with a piece of cs 11x6.5.  I made one valley fold at the right of about 2 in.  I then folded from the left so the edge met the score line at the right.  I then made a fold dividing this left panel in half.  View 2 shows this left panel folded back, and view 3 shows the left panel open.  Besides providing space for more images, this card can easily stand for display.  I also dug into my photo boxes and made a little brag book of photos from years past.   This  is a good way to give young people pictures they may not own themselves - and often provides a
smile or two!

QKR Stampede Challenge #242 - Anything goes: Option - feminine (Mother's Day)

This week the Anything Goes challenge at QKR Stampede has the option of doing a feminine/Mother's Day card.  My mother passed away a few years ago, but I made a card suitable for any one who has had a great influence,  You may enter the QKR Stampede challenge up to 3 times through 6 pm EDT on Thursday.  Win this digi or another from their store!  This is called tulips and Pansies.    I colored with Prismas, and fussy cut the image to mount it on a deep purple mat dry embossed with Swiss Dots.  I added a strip of lace and a bit of glittery lacy fabric for some glitz.

Some cheer for Anthony

Some of you may have seen previous posts for the SplitCoastStampers Tuesday TeaPot party. Our cards may be sent to a recipient in need of cheer.  I have not been a regular participant of late, but this week I wanted to be sure to join in.  The cards go to Anthony, a 16 yer old undergoing his second heart surgery.  Side effects have caused him to lose his voice and have difficulty swallowing.  I have "known" his mother for some time through SCS. We sent cards a couple of years ago, and she said he has kept them in a memory box - I think all cardmakers are happy to know that their cards really do make an impact.   One of Anthony's interests is basketball.  I am pleased to have a chance to use some of the materials left from when our granddaughter played HS basketball! The basket is a Brad Buddy from Hot off the Press.  The sentiment is from QKR Stampede, and that backing strip is duct tape.
Here is a link to the TeaPot party.  You are more than welcome to join us!

Graduation, Hal

Two of our grandkids graduate this month.      They are brother and sister - fortunately, the ceremonies are a week apart - easier for the parents!  Unfortunately, hubbys severe back pain is preventing any travel, so we will miss the big events.
I recently saw an example of what I call a double fold card - I am sure it has a name.  Both the designer and name of the card escape me, but I wanted to try it.  I think it makes for a great special occasion card and also one that allows a few extra elements - when I do graduation cards I like t include some pertinent images!  In this case - the name, the year, a college logo   - this is the Jayhawk from the Univ. of Kansas for those not from around here!  Hal has been accepted at a vet school - hence the vet (dearie Dolls) and a scientific (!) magnifying glass sticker.  I added  a bit of Designer paper with   appropriate words, and a computer generated verse.  The almost invisible graduate is from Dearie Dolls.
This was put in the mail earlier today, and I have no other photos of the process.  The base started as 4.5x11.  At the right, I made a mountain fold at about 1.75.  I then folded from the left, to meet the fold line at the right.  the left hand section was then folded at the half way point with a mountain fold. (The section with the vet and magnifying glass fold under the section with his name (left photo)  When closed, it covers half of the inner part.  the embossed panel folds back and is behind the main panel when closed)  The advantage is that it stands easily as a display card - and looks a bit more impressive than a regular card.  Sorry I am not good at directions or photos..

Hello, Art and Mary

I am sending this to friends who recently moved to a retirement community in another city.  We often had coffee together at church, so I thought this was appropriate to send as a "miss you" card.  The images are from a freebie set from Verve.  Most of the coloring is with regular markers - a change for me as I usually use Prismas or gel pens.  The die cut is part of a flourish by Die-namics.  I snipped bits to use as "steam" from the cups.  The words are the top layer of a napkin.  I did not do anything but attach it with glue.

Sympathy - in memory of Laverne

We just heard that our friend Laverne has lost her struggle with cancer.  She has lived a long, full life and we are thankful to know she will spend eternity with her Lord.  Nevertheless, it is difficult for her husband.  Laverne regularly attended a Bible class, and often played the piano for services - so the items on the card reflect her life.  The image is from Sweet 'n Sassy, and the papers are from my stash. The circle dies are by Spellbinder,

Sympathy #1

I am making a series of sympathy cards using this tree from "Lovely as a Tree" by Stampin' Up.  It is an older set but a favorite.  Since these cards all go to guys in their 50s, and who live in in a wooded area, I thought this would be appropriate.  The bg is dry embossed with Cuttlebug's vine folder. The sentiment is by Paper Inspirations.

I recently won a nice prize from the Snippets Playground challenge - this window die by Die-namics, and this cat stamp by Paper Xtra.  I wanted to use both, and thought this sketch would work, but I think in retrospect the kitty is a bit too large.  Oh, well - I usually post just about everything I make, so it will have to do!  I used the wood grain embossing and a bit of a branch also by Die-namics.   I added some punched rose butterflies.
I think I outdid myself with snippets!  The cat is stamped on the piece from the window.  I found a bit of the tree DP that just fit, and used scraps for both the rose and blue embellishments. I think I actually used up a scrap or two.

HB, Ethan

This Dearie Doll colored digi is great for our grandson - he is in his mid 20's - loves dogs and the outdoors, including fishing.  This is not the right kind of dog, but the idea is there!  I used some DP I hae had for a long time.  The sentiment is by TAWS, and I had a chance to use my doggie bone
punch!  This is a bit of a stretch for the Things that hop challenge - but have you seen your fishing rod and line when there is a fish - it really hops!

Smiley flowers - DT card for QKR Stampede Challenge #239

We hope you will join us for the QKR Stampede challenge #237.  This week the Anything Goes challenge includes the option of Flowers.  I used these adorable Smiley Flowers from QKR Stampede, and accompanied them with springy colors.  The Blessings greeting is from the Eureka division of QKR Stampede. You may submit up to 3 entries each week for the challenge that ends at 6 p.m. on Thursday.  The winner will receive a digi from QKR, and each week there is a separate winning entry using QKR images - and the prize is 3 digis.
The image is colored with Prismas.  The white panel is partially embossed with a row of hearts - EF by Darice.  The three  dragonfly die cuts are by Cheery Lynn, and I added some stickles for a bit of bling.

HB, Dale

I used this clipart image a while ago, and realized it would be perfect for our friend.  He and I have birthdays within a few days of each other, and we just celebrated a few days ago.  They are snowbirds and headed for their summer place in Colorado. So he already has the card, and he enjoyed it even more than I  expected!  Unless you are Nebraska fans, you probably do not realize that Herbie Husker is a mascot of the football Cornhuskers.  With a nickname like that, and the ear of corn you can see, this must meet the farm theme of the Creative Corner challenge!

Margarita Monday

We had a small family reunion at our house last week.  I was asked to make a card featuring a margarita card.  I found a great set by googling clip art - but I cannot find it now!  I used a scrap of pattern paper to continue the theme, and added stickles to the salt on the glass.
The end of the sentiment (inside) says..."especially when the salt accompanies a drink and good friends!"

QKR Stampede challenge ~` anything goes/optional - Easter

The weekly "Anything Goes" challenge #238 at QKR Stampede features the optional twist of  "Easter".  This quote, from the Eureka branch of QKR, relates the true meaning of Easter.  I added the image of the open tomb also a digi from Eureka.  You may enter the challenge up to 3 times, and you may win digital images.  If you use an image from the company, and win, your prize is greater.  I used a piece of DP from the Faith collection by Paper Studio.  The strip at the bottom is covered with a piece of netting from my stash - I think it may have been part of a produce bag. (It is beige - a nice contrast to the usual bright red!)   I tore the edges of the bg paper, and used Spellbinder dies for the circle and oval.
