Timely masculine B'day card

I am continuing to try to incorporate ideas I see on various blogs.  This time, I attempted to create a shabby bg - which is not showing here (the Happy birthday layer is NOT shiny, but shabby.  I sponged through a stencil and lightly stamped with stamps from the Nostalgique (EK Success) set - which includes the clock.  Next I embossed the HB folder.  The bg layer is embossed with argyle  on white core cs.  I also sponged the cord with Ranger Distress ink.   I have lots of favorite dies - circles are right at the top of the list!  The border is a Martha Stewart punch.
I have a question for you - does any one else have MS punches that cause problems?  Mine seem to lose the "spring" and fail to punch through each time, and then do not release properly.  Major disappointment!

Thank you so much for entering your lovely card in our challenge at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!! What a lovely card for the special man in your life! My MS punches are usually my faves and work better than any other brand, BUT I used one today that had the exact same problem you described. It is one of my oldest and most frequently used, so I figured I just wore it out. I'm going to try punching it through foil a few times to sharpen it. Hoping that will help...
Hugs,
Nancy

A perfectly masculine card Dorothy! I really like that you're experimenting with core papers and embossing folders and I'm so glad you joined us at the Frilly and Funkie challenge! Yes, I have had the same problem though only occasionally. Sometimes I think it's the punch telling me that I'm using a paper that's too thick for the punch design and Like Nancy, I punch through aluminum foil to refresh my much used and tiring punches! ((hugs)) Rebecca
