Birthday blessings

Our Daily Bread image - colored with water color pencils - I outlined with the pencils. then used an aqua pen to spread the color.  The image is cut with a circle die and backed with a doily.   Blessings die by Cheery Lynn; pale yellow gems and ribbon.  This red and yellow has become a favorite color combo.

HB, Margaret

I thought this would be a fun birthday card for my sister-in-law, a retired teacher.  I got to use a new die from Couture as well as some well used Nesties.  The embossed greeting is a Cuttlebug folder I had forgotten about - enhanced with dark rust ink.  The Dearie Doll image is a pre-colored free digi.  The card is 4.5 x 6.5.  IRL the colors are salmon and rust.

New On the Edge Die

I just bought several Couture On the Edge dies - this one is called Verbascum.  I cut the die a second time, using a sage green, and taped the pieces to the back.  This is a bit time consuming and I probably will not use this technique often though I do like the result. There are shiny light blue gems for the flower center.   I used dark blue cs for the main die, and backed it with shimmery champagne cs.  The light blue layer is also a shimmery finish.  The die cut letters are Cuttlebug Olivia, and I added a piece of fiber to separate the panels.

Keep your eye on the ball - QKR #206 DT card

It looks like I took this challenge very literally!  This is Golfing Bear, a digital image from QKR Stampede.  I selected this QKR sentiment to go with it.  I am sure it refers to age, but I thought why not here?  I don't golf, but maybe there is someone who might have considered fudging on a score...!  I colored the image with chalk pencils, for a soft look, and hand cut the image to go right next to the grassy dp (Paper Studio) .  The oval and "golf balls" are die cuts.  I dry embossed the balls with the Swiss Dot EF and enhanced the dimples with glitter.  The card is 4.5 x 6.5.  My favorite shape for cards is rectangular because I like the flexibility of layouts - so many images fit well.  I also like the practicality - no extra postage as there is for square ones!

Edith is 100

I am trying to put some order in the chaos of my craft room.  I am so blessed to have an abundance of supplies - I do find it difficult to purge as I keep thinking I will have time to use what I have...some day.  At any rate, this is an image from a very old SU set called Natural Beauty - it was in my box of items received through Wish RAK.  I colored with Twinkling H20's, and matched with a piece of DP that was part of a pad I bought years ago.  This cranberry is one of my favorites.  I added cranberry half pearls, pieces of a doily, and sheer ribbon.  This goes to hubby's aunt - the last survivor of our parents' generation.

Shepherd Boy Christmas

I make most of my Christmas cards using the same image and sentiment, so I enjoy trying different layouts and backgrounds. This non frills version is great for a guy on our list.
Shepherd Boy by QKR; sentiment by Hampton Art; cream ribbon, die cut with hand made paper; Labels 4 dies.  I bought a pack of 25 sheets of this striped cs (Not paper!) at a craft expo for  $1 - but I forget the name of the vendor.  Lots of great deals there!

Shaped card - QKR Stampede Design Team card for Aug.18-25

This week, the challenge at QKR Stampede is to complete a shaped card.  I am not very good at free-hand cutting, so I opted to use Spellbinders Labels One dies - I actually used 3 different sizes.  You have an opportunity to win adorable QKR images - you can enter up to 3 times by 6 p.m. Thursday, August 25.  See details here:  QKR Stampede
I enjoy humorous cards, and these images are such fun!  The card front is QKR "Magic Card", and the inside is QKR "One Year Older",

I cut the image using the medium sized die.  Then I cut the next larger from a metallic blue.  My idea is that the metallic is a bit more magical!  The cutting is a bit different in that I folded the card stock, and left a narrow strip at the top attached.  You can see that I used a tie - mostly for embellishment.  I adhered the image to this blue layer - now there are three layers. I cut the card base using the largest of the Nesties.  I folded the card stock, smoothing the fold with a bone folder.  I then positioned the largest Nestie so that a but of the fold did not get cut.  (See the flattened edge of the left  photo.)  In the left photo you can see the outline of the white card base.  I added a bit of  border faux stitching in gold.  By placing both images on the outside of the base, I have left the inside available for a sentiment or note.

I colored with a blue Prisma and metallic gold pen.  Some glitter was added to the edge - more magic dust!

SCS - MMTPT421 - Farm life for Marilyn

Each week the Tea Pot Party gals at Splitcoaststampers create cards to send to someone who may have a special need.  This week our cards go to Marilyn, who has had to give up her life on the farm for a retirement situation - and she misses her farm life.  Any one is welcome to join the party here:  Teapot Tuesdays.

DTGD - Cathy's challenge

You may know that I do not do many CAS cards, but this did seem to work for me.  The sentiment is by Cuttlebug, and the butterflies by CC Designs.  I cut them from some scraps of "splattered" cs.  This was posted in my SCS gallery on 8-8.

MMTPT420 -for a fan of pirates.

The recipient of this Tea Pot Party card is Al, who has had severe medical issues and is doing rehap to regain strength.  He is a fun loving guy who enjoys pirates, so this Dearie Doll pre-colored image is perfect.  See details of the Tea Pot Party here:   Splitcoaststampers teapot-tuesdays- mmtpt420
The red, white and blue is one of my favorite combinations but does not always work for me!  I used washi tape, dp that reminds me of ocean water, and Cuttlebug letters.  I used scraps for the DP bg and for the blue letters and strip.

SCS DTGD - cook22 challenge - a pocket card

This was a fun pocket card to make.  I added a flowerpunched swirls, die cuts, Cheery Lynn Blessings die cut, and a book mark. The bg was embossed, then soaked in a bit of coffee. To enhance the look, I sprinkled on some dry granulated instant coffee to add to the vintage look.  This was first posted in my SCS gallery on Aug. 5.

QKR Stampede #204 - Monochromatic - DT entry

I hope your screen is set so that this looks green - especially the DP background, which is a very dark and very light green.  The challenge at QKR Stampede this week is to make a monochromatic creation.  You may enter up to 3 times before 6pm EDT on Thursday- for a chance to win QKR images.  Take a look at the creative gallery by the DT members! I selected this Hobbling Frog and matching sentiment.  Right now I have no recipient in mind, but every once in a while I have a friend with a broken ankle or hip replacement and this would be perfect.  I figure it could go for a guy or a gal!  Some where I heard that green is not a good get well color - but I figured I needed a green froggie!  This fun DP was in a huge tub of material from a yard sale.  I added some gems and a leafy circle die cut.  I have lots of embellishments I like, but these tiny gems are among my favorites - they add some pizzazz but not too much bulk.

SCS Dare to get dirty bookmark - Stamper Robin

This book mark uses spray starch, powdered chalk and plastic wrap - here on black shiny cs. I need to play around with this idea some more.   I added a Cheery Lynn dragonfly and some cord, then cut in a tag shape.  From my SCS gallery 8-8.
Basically, the technique is to spray cs with starch, add some color medium in colors and "design" desired; spray again with starch. In this example, I used 3-4 coordinating colors of powdered chalk, sprinkled on the starch.    You may choose to top with crumpled plastic wrap, perhaps smooshing it around a bit and allow to dry -this takes a while. I am sure using white glossy cs

SCS Dare to Get Dirty - Christmas for Stamping Queen JAR

The week long Dare to Get Dirty challenge at SplitCoastStampers continues.  If you are a member of the Fan Club (fee required) you may participate for fun and prizes.  The deadline is Aug. 8.  I created this Christmas card for Stamping Queen JAR's challenge.
Since I am addicted to embossing folders (try to find a week when I did not use several LOL!) I found a new technique to try.  There is a tutorial here:  foil embossing.  I covered the piece of cs with kitchen foil - cut a bit larger and tape the excess on the back.  You can ink up the folder, but I wanted the shiny result so I left it plain.  What great embossing!  Every year I  plan to look for a star folder, but, here I am, using snowflakes again!  If you know of a full page star folder, please let me know.   I added a bit of blue ribbon, some Cheery Lynn pine branches, and a star brad that I glittered up.

The Dare to Get Dirty challenges at SplitCoastStampers continue through the end of the week - Aug. 8 is the deadline for submitting entries.  There will be some 40 challenges.  I had hoped to do them all but am more and more behind!  For this card I used a watercoloring technique (on watercolor paper) to achieve a vintage look.  I chose to use this very underutilized stamp be Inkadinkado,  The backing is a selection from the DCWV Heirloom collection.  I added a bit of Washi tape, sticker strip  and sequins for finishing touches.  The finished card is 4.75x7.  The hostess for this challenge is ohmypaper!

SCS Dare to Get Dirty - an anniversary card

If you are a member of SplitCoastStampers and have joined the Fan Club (fee required), you are eligible to participate in the week long Fan club Dirty Girl challenges.  There are 40 some different challenges and lots of prizes.  I think the deadline is Aug. 8.
Yesterday at church I heard that friends are celebrating their 61st anniversary - if you look at my blog regularly you see lots of big numbers here Tee hee!  Since we are residents of the AZ desert, I thought a  palm tree theme would be appropriate, and I used some DP (Debbie Mumm) that has been languishing in my drawer for a lon time!  I did some of the cuts with the dull blade I keep to create rough edges. Both stamps are SU - Balmy Breezes and Fundamental Phrases.  I used watercolor pencils for the image; Cuttlebug die numbers, and a bit of Washi tape. (At this rate I will have Washi tape for the next 50 years LOL!)  Even though we have palm trees all year long, they still make me think of summer and the 110 days we have been having.
