Spinner

Front of card

Inside view

Open view
I recently made some purchases - the items have pretty much been gathering dust until I figure out a way to use them.  Can any one relate?  I bought some ready made card bases for what I think is called a tri fold spinner card.  I also bought (from the Create and Craft TV show) a very large kit of Kanban items.  They are all nice but the items often do not fit a layout or color scheme I planned to use.  So when I saw the challenge at Our Daily Bread I thought this is the time to see what I can do.  I would really appreciate any hints, suggestions or examples you might have.  For me, the most difficult aspect is to deal with the circle that is pre-cut - or, more accurately, half cut.  It seems that one must leave the scallop portion as a white bg
Here, I used a piece of eggplant shimmery cs (dry embossed with Textiles) cut to fit the front - using a circle die for the opening.  Then I stamped the ODB sentiment, and layered it on a slightly larger piece of eggplant.  I added a strip from the Kanban kit, and a Cheery Lynn die cut bird INSIDE:  I used a ready made floral section (Kanban) for the right side - again, with a piece of eggplant cs for the mat.  Another Kanban piece covers the inside of the pre-cut circle, and pieces from a Joanna Sheen die complete the inside design.  I left a bit at the bottom for a hand written message and/or signature.

For Terry

The challenge at Art Impressions is to create a card using a slider or otherwise concealed image.  Since I do not have their new slider die, I made do by creating my own slider "frame" which I also paper pierced.  You most likely cannot see the piercing on the screen - nor can you see the true brown color of the Washi tape strips!   Oh, well...   It was after I made my choices that I realized this fisherman is an AI stamp - one I got a few years ago, probably at a yard sale!  It is marked 1996, so has been around for a while, but still timely.  This is for our son-in-law, and there will also be a birthday check concealed under the image.  He is an avid fisherman, so I can always find a theme!
At    http://anythingwisconsin.com/fishsayings.htm     I found the following to print on the inside:
things that I have learned from fishing:
1. There is no such thing as too much equipment.
2. When in doubt, exaggerate.
3. Even the best lines get weak after they have been used a few times.
4. Sometimes you really have to squirm to get off the hook.
5. The fishing is always better on the other side of the lake.
6. Good things come to those who wade.

Glitter and purple birthday

This sketch and other challenges gave me a chance to use  a small piece of glittery DP (for he three strips) that I have had in my scrap pile for a while.  I also added glitter to the Cheery Lynn die cut branches as well as to the purple brad - which kind of blends in at the base of the branches.  I added shiny gems, then bits from a Fiskar punch.  The sentiments are from Verve.  The inside verse says Happy Birthday.

QKR Guest Designer - Paper Piecing #197

Today I changed hats, and will join the QKR design team for a few weeks.  This week the challenge at  QKR Stampede  is Paper Piecing.  You may enter as many as 3 times, and you have a chance to win 2 digital images - the prize is 3 images if you use a QKR image.
I have been wanting to use this cute image for a while, and I think it worked well to paper piece the cactus and also the lazy turtle. (I think he is trying to keep cool in our 110+ temps in AZ!)  This  Relaxin Turtle is by QKR, and the sentiment is Eureka.  I used the same pattern paper for the Spellbinder border style die cuts, and backed it with black.  The sun is from a Cuttlebug Die.  I used scraps for all the paper piecing and the strips.  The image is new to me; all the papers are old, including the blue sky.

Eureka Stamps DT entry - Challenge #197 - For a Guy

I appreciate being able to do a card for any guy, since my father passed away many years ago.  Actually, I think I will send this to my brother whose birthday is this week.  This is challenge #197 at Eureka Stamps.  You may enter  up to 3 times by 3 pm EDT, Sunday, June 19.  If your entry is randomly selected you will win 2 digi images - if you use an image by Eureka you win an extra digi!
Here I used the image "frog on side" and the digital sentiment is also by Eureka.  The coloring is with  Prismas.  I used a couple of scraps of DP from my stash.  The edges of the white cs are sponged with Marigold ink, and I distressed all the paper edges.  The mats are a dark olive green.  I added 3 sequins - part of a prize from Craftin Desert Divas.  I put some tiny gems in the centers.  A twine bow completes the card.

Isaiah 40:8

This sentiment from Word Art reminds us of such an important truth.  I used DP and a butterfly circle from a Kanban kit for background, as well as a part of a Joanna Sheen die.  It seems hard to tell on the screen - the main color is a sage green, and the bg mats are a dark green.

For JoAnn

This is a card I did not want to make.  We have known JoAnn for over 50 years, though distance has separated us for several years.  She was diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago, and now her condition is worsening.  Please keep JoAnn, her husband and family in your thoughts and prayers.
Update:  We just learned of her passing on June 16.
Stamps by Verve, SU turquoise ink; DP by DCWV (garden Party) - in one of my favorite color combos.  I placed the DP under the solid turquoise frame.  The DP was a left over piece from another project - just barely the right size.

Happy 84th!  Unfortunately, this fits for hubby this year - he is recovering very slowly from recent back surgery and is getting kind of discouraged.  I hope this AI image gives him a lift!
Colored with chalk pencils; sentiment by The Rubber Cafe.  I added some twine and brads for a more masculine feel.  The blue CS is very textured.

Blue and Yellow

I had planned to spend much more time on this card, but several unexpected situation came up...
I should have made the strip of Washi tape smaller.  I used a Paper Studio embossing folder, and Several odds and ends of papers, including the DP (these were all pieces I got at a super bargain at a yard sale - looked like someone abandoned scrapbook projects and I got lots of scraps as well as a lot of real goodies.).  The image by CraftSmart is watercolored.  I will send this to a friend who raises chickens.

DT card for Eureka Stamps challenge #196 - "wings"

I really like this penguin trying to stay cool.  When I chose the image, I certainly did not realize that the outside temperature here in Arizona would be a record breaking 115 - the earliest date recorded for that high a temperature!
Before submitting this card to a couple of challenges, I felt I had to verify some facts.  To find out if penguins have feathers and if they qualify as winged creatures, check out this website:  Penguin.net.nz/faq/ .  Among other things you will learn is that penguins do in fact have knees, feathers and wings!
Challenge #196 at Eureka Stamps is "things with wings".  You have until 3pm EDT Sunday to enter as many as 3 times.  You may win some of the Eureka images.
Recipe:  Image, Penguin on Ice; sentiment - Cool birthday - Eureka;  stickles (on the ice); shimmery silver cs by Recollections;  Cuttlebug embossing folder - Diamonds; shiny black gems;  misc DP and dark grey cs;   inspiration - "March of the Penguins"

HB, Ervin

Once again it is time to send a card to hubby's twin brother.  He is a retired farmer, and wheat was one of the local crops, so I wanted this image for his card - thanks, Aastha for the supply you sent.  I used watercolor pencils and an aqua pen to create the bg.

Flowers for a birthday

This DP is probably too informal for the image... oh, well...
Image - Our Daily Bread, colored with metallic gel pens.  The cs is a shimmery silver, and the DP by Beau Papier.  I added some shiny twine, and a Cheery Lynn dragonfly die cut- cut twice and layered.  The mats are purple, and I couldn't resist adding some shiny purple gems.
